The United States defeated Germany today (August 6) in the women’s soccer semifinal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The match, held at the Lyon stadium, saw the only goal scored by American forward Smith.

The first half saw both teams battling for dominance, with the Americans having a slight edge but unable to break through Germany’s well-organized defense. On the other hand, Germany struggled to turn their moments of possession into scoring opportunities. The first half ended with the scoreline remaining 0-0.

In the second half, Germany started to pose more of an attacking threat, while the US reduced their offensive pace from the first half. Despite some dangerous moments for both sides, the game remained tied and went into extra time.

In the first half of extra time, the game’s first goal finally arrived, and it was an American one: in the fifth minute, forward Swanson played a through ball to Smith. German defender Hendrich failed to cover properly, allowing the US number 11 to beat goalkeeper Berger and secure the victory and a place in the first Olympic final for American women’s soccer since 2012.

Now, the US is waiting to find out their opponent from the Spain vs. Brazil match to determine who they will face in the Olympic final on August 10 (Saturday) at 12:00 PM.
