Palmeiras concedes a draw to Mirassol and misses the chance to enter the G4 of the Brazilian Championship

Palmeiras stumbled against Mirassol this Wednesday (16) and wasted the chance to enter the G4 of the Brazilian Championship

Palmeiras returned to the Brazilian Championship with a 1-1 draw against Mirassol on Wednesday night (16/7). The green-and-white team took the lead through Facundo Torres, but saw the team from the interior seek to equalize through Chico da Costa, in a duel of the 14th round of the tournament, which took place at Allianz Parque.

The match marked the debut of Ramón Sosa, who was announced as a reinforcement last week. With this result, Verdão missed the chance to return to the G4 of the Brasileirão. The team led by coach Abel Ferreira is in fifth place, with 23 points. Mirassol is in tenth place, with 18 points. Palmeiras returns to the field this Sunday (20), against Atlético-MG, for the 15th round of the Brasileirão.

The ball rolls from 5:30 pm (Brasília time), again at Allianz Parque. Mirassol will play again at home, against Santos, on Saturday (19), at 6:30 pm.

The game between Palmeiras and Mirassol

Mirassol started with possession and with almost two minutes left on the clock, they created some danger, but Bruno Fuchs cleared the ball and sent it wide. Taking advantage of a counterattack in the eighth minute, Palmeiras nearly opened the scoring. After a move down the right with Facundo Torres, Felipe Anderson received the ball on the left, just outside the box, and shot towards goal, forcing Walter to palm it away. In the 15th minute, Vitor Roque wasted a great chance. Walter made a mistake in clearing the ball, Raphael Veiga recovered it at the edge of the box and passed it to Vitor Roque on the left, who shot wide from inside the box.

Mirassol responded and narrowly missed scoring. Lucas Ramón arrived on the right at speed and crossed into the box for Alesson, who arrived from behind. Gustavo Gómez reached the ball first and slotted it wide. Palmeiras threatened again in the 24th minute. Felipe Anderson sped past his marker on the left, burst into the box, and passed it to Facundo.

The Uruguayan passed to Raphael Veiga at the edge of the box, who fired a low shot wide. Five minutes later, Facundo crossed the ball to Vitor Roque, who fumbled his control and missed his shot. The ball hit the defense and went out for a corner. In the next play, Veiga lifted the ball into the box to Gómez’s head at the near post. The Paraguayan laid it off to Ríos at the far post, and the Colombian headed the ball home from close range, but Walter saved. Palmeiras persisted, but the referee then stopped play for offside.

Shortly after, Ríos took a free kick straight into the goalkeeper’s hands. In the 40th minute, the goalkeeper saved another from a shot from the left by Piquerez.

Second Half

Piquerez took a long-range shot three minutes into the second half. The full-back’s shot from outside the box deflected off the defense and went wide. Shortly after, Piquerez received the ball from Felipe Anderson and lifted it into the box. Walter came out and punched it away. Palmeiras continued to pressure Mirassol and had another chance in the eighth minute. Aníbal received the ball at the edge of the box, unleashed a shot, and hit the marker. The pressure paid off, and Verdão opened the scoring shortly after. Palmeiras advanced down the right, with Richard Rìos crossing the ball into the box; Mirassol’s defense was unable to clear it. Veiga backheeled the ball to Facundo Torres, who was coming from behind. The Uruguayan’s shot deflected off João Victor before finding the net. In the 15th minute, Vitor Roque was brought down in front of the box and earned a dangerous free kick.

Palmeiras used a set piece, and Veiga sent the ball wide. In the 22nd minute, Flaco López, who had just come on, broke into a counterattack and took a shot from in front of goal. Mirassol equalized in the 26th minute. Danielzinho took a free kick and found Neto Moura, who sent the ball into the box, heading it towards Jemmes.

The defender laid it off, and Chico da Costa simply pushed it into the goal. In the 41st minute, Piquerez worked with Ríos, who sent a low shot to Allan. Walter, however, got there first and made the save. Palmeiras pressed until the end, but were ineffective in their attempts.
