New home: Frank Lampard is the new coach of Coventry City.

Coventry City announced on Thursday, the 28th, the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new manager. A Chelsea legend as a player, Lampard returns to the coaching role after 18 months away from the field. His contract is valid until July 2027. Find the top football updates at latest soccer scores.

While his career on the field is enviable, his coaching career has been less impressive. Lampard first took charge of Chelsea in July 2019 and stayed until 2021, being dismissed after poor results during a season compressed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, he played a part in the campaign that ended with a Champions League title that season, under Thomas Tuchel’s leadership.

Later, the former midfielder took over as interim manager at Chelsea in the 2022/23 season following Graham Potter’s dismissal. However, poor results and a lack of ideas in their play led the club’s board to hire Mauricio Pochettino for the following season.

In addition to his time at his former club, Lampard also managed Derby County and Everton, with both stints being modest and largely unsuccessful. Recently, he was considered for the England national team manager role after Gareth Southgate’s dismissal, due to his strong connection with English football, but the position was ultimately filled by Tuchel.
