French forward Kylian Mbappé missed the entire opening stages of the Club World Cup in the United States. He suffered from severe gastroenteritis symptoms and spent a day in the hospital for further tests. This Wednesday (July 9th), the cause of the poisoning that sent Mbappé to the hospital during the World Cup was revealed. 

According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, the Real Madrid player suffered from bacterial poisoning caused by eating contaminated chicken. However, the food was not ingested in the United States, according to L’Équipe – he was already feeling ill even before boarding the plane to the United States. However, the symptoms worsened in the following days.

On June 18, Mbappé was hospitalized for tests. Initial suspicions were heatstroke, but even appendicitis was considered. Tests detected food poisoning, linked to bacteria in the chicken. The Spanish press reported that gastrointestinal problems caused the striker to lose six kilos.
