Botafogo defeats Fluminense, inflicts first defeat on Renato and puts crisis behind them

Vitinho and Savarino scored the goals in Botafogo’s victory on Saturday night (4/26), at Nilton Santos, in the Brazilian Championship.

Botafogo recovered from three setbacks in the Brazilian Championship in the best possible way: by beating a rival. Renato Paiva’s team prevailed against Fluminense, scoring 2-0 at Nilton Santos and returning, at least provisionally, to the top half of the table.

Vitinho and Savarino scored the goals in the match. With the result, the current national champion reached 7 points and reached 7th place. Flu, on the other hand, suffered its first defeat under Renato Gaúcho’s command and remained at 10 points, still in the G4.

The result extended a drought for Flu, which has accumulated eight consecutive defeats against its rival – the last victory occurred in June 2022, in a Brasileirão duel. The teams will play again in the middle of the week for the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.

Botafogo hosts Capital on Wednesday, while Flu, also at home, faces Aparecidense.
