The match carried significant weight for Barça. The day before, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid had drawn 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu, leaving the door open for Barcelona to fully re-enter the race for the 2024/25 La Liga title.

At the 62nd minute, López himself was sent off, and it seemed like Sevilla would press for an equalizer.
