Argentina coach speaks out about rumors that he was approached by the CBF

Coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about alleged contact from the Brazilian entity and answered whether he would coach the country’s national team.

World champion in 2022, Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about the possibility of coaching the Brazilian National Team. The country’s national team has been without a coach since the dismissal of Dorival Júnior at the end of March this year. Several names have been speculated about the position in recent weeks. Different national and international media outlets indicate that the favorite to take over the role is the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, from Real Madrid. The European coach has been a long-standing desire of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and has been negotiating with the entity for a few months now.

However, a rumor emerged in the Argentine media that the CBF had approached Lionel Scaloni at some point. The coach spoke out about the speculation and stated that he was never contacted by the Brazilian federation and said that it is “impossible” for him to coach Brazil. “I only found out now. They didn’t call me. I’m sorry, but it’s impossible. Let Carlo (Ancelotti) go if he has to, but not me,” he told El VAR de Siro.

Scaloni’s coaching career

Former player Lionel Scaloni took over as coach of the Argentine national team in 2018. In charge of the team, he won the Copa América twice (2021 and 2024) and won a World Cup title (2022) and a Finals (2022).
