Which team was better? How Renato Gaúcho assessed Fluminense vs. Chelsea

Fluminense coach Renato Gaúcho spoke about the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup semi-final

Fluminense was defeated by Chelsea this Tuesday in New Jersey. The result ended the club’s dream of reaching the Club World Cup final. Despite the setback, coach Renato Gaúcho praised the Rio de Janeiro club’s performance in the competition.

“We certainly leave with our heads held high because of what we did in this World Cup. We knew it would be a tough match, against a very skilled team. They scored an early goal, held on, and extended their lead early in the second half,” he said. The manager preferred not to stir up controversy over the penalty awarded and later disallowed by the referee in the first half.

“It’s difficult to say now. It would certainly change the course of the game. Unfortunately, some referees award this penalty and others don’t. Only when I look at the play properly can I say more,” he declared.

Fluminense returns to Brazil in the coming days and will focus on the rest of the season. The Tricolor team is currently competing in the Brazilian Championship, Copa do Brasil, and Copa Sudamericana.
