
Italian attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, from Fiorentina, allegedly exchanged insults and attacked players from Roma’s under-20 team
Attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo was involved in a brawl with players from Roma’s under-20 team. The Italian, on loan from Galatasaray to Fiorentina, invaded the team’s dressing room and attacked two Roma juniors, according to the country’s press. Having played for Roma, Zaniolo attended his former club’s under-20 team’s match against Fiorentina on Monday, in the semi-final of the Primavera Championship.
Also according to Italian newspapers, the 25-year-old player exchanged insults with the youngsters before invading the dressing room. In a statement, Roma accused Zaniolo of attacking the two youngsters. In response, Fiorentina published a statement from the player himself denying that he had been involved in a brawl.
‘”At the end of the game I went down to the dressing room to congratulate the Fiorentina boys and then I went to the Roma dressing room to greet them and congratulate them on their season, but they started insulting me. To avoid the situation from getting worse, I preferred to leave’”, explained Zaniolo, via an official statement from the Florence club.
Nicolo Zaniolo’s career
In addition to Roma and Fiorentina, Zaniolo has played for Virtus Entella, Internazionale and Atalanta in Italian football. He also played for Aston Villa in England and remains linked to Galatasaray in Turkey.
For the Italian national team, Zaniolo has made 19 appearances and scored two goals. He has not been called up by the Azzurri since the friendly victory against Ecuador in March 2024.
