Palmeiras lost defender Murilo for the remainder of the FIFA Club World Cup; midfielder Aníbal Moreno is still in doubt
Palmeiras has lost a player ahead of the round of 16 of the Club World Cup. On Wednesday (6/25), the club reported an injury to the left thigh of defender Murilo, who had to be substituted in the 2-2 draw against Inter Miami on Monday (23), in the third round of the group stage of the competition.
The defender underwent tests and the problem was detected. The club did not disclose the recovery time, but the athlete could even miss the rest of the tournament if Palmeiras qualifies. The athlete has already started treatment with the Health and Performance Center.
The number 26 felt pain in his left thigh in the play in which Inter Miami opened the scoring, 15 minutes into the first half of the game that took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. He fell before reaching Allende after a counterattack by the North American team. Bruno Fuchs was the one who came in to replace him.
If Murilo is unable to play in the knockout stage, Bruno Fuchs is an option to be the starter. In addition to him, coach Abel Ferreira also has Micael, Benedetti and Naves as options.
The green and white squad still has two more days to prepare for the match against Botafogo and will return to training this Wednesday. Palmeiras will face the Rio de Janeiro team this Saturday (28), at 1 pm (Brasília time), at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia, for the round of 16 of the Club World Cup.
On the other hand, for the match, Verdão may have the return of midfielder Aníbal Moreno, who was absent against Inter Miami. Verdão’s number 5 suffered an edema in his right thigh against Al Ahly, in the second round, and was absent from the match. He has made progress in his recovery and should once again be an option for Abel.
