Football bids farewell to a legend. Marcelo, a multi-champion and idol of Real Madrid and Fluminense, announced his retirement from the pitch at the age of 36 this Thursday, the 6th. He had been without a club since terminating his contract with Fluminense at the end of 2024 following a dispute with coach Mano Menezes. See the top football results at latest soccer scores.

The left-back began his career at the Brazilian club and had a meteoric rise, being sold to Real Madrid in 2006. Before that, he was named the best in his position in the 2005 Brazilian Championship.

“My journey as a player ends here, but I still have a lot to give to football. Thank you for everything,” Marcelo said in a video posted on social media.

At the Spanish club, Marcelo established himself as one of the greatest players in his position and became the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history (later surpassed by Luka Modric and Carvajal), winning a total of 25 titles: five Champions League titles, six La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, two Copa del Rey titles, five Spanish Super Cups, and three UEFA Super Cups.

After leaving Spain, he had a brief six-month stint at Olympiakos before announcing his return to Fluminense, the club that launched him into professional football. Since his return, Marcelo played 68 matches and won the Campeonato Carioca, the Copa Libertadores, and the Recopa Sudamericana titles.

For the Brazilian national team, he held the starting left-back position for eight years. He played in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups and won the 2013 Confederations Cup. He also earned silver (2012) and bronze (2008) medals at the Olympic Games. Stay on top of the game with BB Score.
