Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, 52, has accepted the role of head coach for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team. The news has been confirmed by various American and English media outlets.
Pochettino was coaching Chelsea during the 2023/2024 season but was let go by the English club at the end of the season. Under his guidance, the London team finished sixth in the Premier League and qualified for the Conference League.
The hiring is aimed at preparing for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The Americans previously had Gregg Berhalter as coach, but he was dismissed following poor results in this year’s Copa América.
