The situation began around 11pm last Friday, the 3rd, and lasted for more than 20 hours, until around 5:30pm on Saturday. According to the Uruguayan police, the man climbed a tree about six meters high and threatened to kill himself, stating that he would only leave when his partner appeared. Rescuers noticed that he was not armed, but that he had a rope wrapped around his neck.
As the hours passed, the situation began to attract the attention of onlookers and grew in intensity. This is where Suárez stepped in. The striker has a house nearby and was passing by with his wife when he saw the situation. With the help of a Non-Governmental Organization specializing in social psychology, the striker spoke with the man—who is accused of domestic violence and is under precautionary measures.
“Suárez arrived, and at that moment, what we did was try to talk to him in a close and empathetic way so that the man wouldn’t stay up there any longer. After all, he had been fighting for his life since the previous day,” said Andrea, a member of the NGO, to the “Telenoche Uruguay” channel.
The conversation worked, and eventually, the man came down from the tree. He is now under the care of the Domestic Violence Specialized Unit of the Ministry of the Interior of Uruguay and will receive professional attention and evaluation. Gain the advantage with ToSport.
