Leila responds to provocations after Palmeiras' elimination from the World Cup: 'They live off past glories'

Palmeiras president said goodbye to the Club World Cup with a thank you note, in which he ‘provoked back’ his rivals

Palmeiras is back in Brazil after participating in the Club World Cup. This Saturday (5/7), president Leila Pereira shared a photo on the plane upon returning to the country and spoke about the club’s participation in the competition. She also took the opportunity to respond to rivals’ provocations about the elimination by Chelsea

In the post, the president of the club made a point of emphasizing that the most important thing is that Palmeiras participated in the competition. In addition, she asked fans not to pay attention to teams that live off “past glories”. “We live in the present. (…) Stay tuned!! We have a lot to achieve this year!! Don’t listen to those who live off past glories because they can’t achieve anything relevant these days”, said Leila on her official profile on X (formerly Twitter) and on her Instagram account.

The president of Palmeiras thanked everyone involved in the competition, from the players and staff to the fans in the United States. Leila praised the commitment of the entire institution during the World Cup. “First of all, I would like to thank our fans who were watching our games in the United States and those who were cheering from all over Brazil and the world. Yes, Palmeiras is huge! Yes, our fans are huge!” “I would like to thank our entire cast, coaching staff, club professionals and partner who organized our impeccable logistics. There is no doubt that everyone did their best. We did the best we could,” she said.

Provocations from Corinthians and São Paulo

After Palmeiras’ defeat to Chelsea last Friday, Corinthians and São Paulo, rivals of Alviverde, provoked the club on social media. Timão responded to a post made by Palmeiras in May of this year, in which it insinuated that Corinthians was a team without tradition in the Libertadores.

On Friday, the revenge came. Alvinegro posted a photo of a Pig being deported from the United States, with details that recalled the club’s two-time World Cup title, in 2000 and 2012. In turn, São Paulo invited its fans to see the three Club World Cup trophies on display at MorumBis.
