In a new legal defeat, PSG will pay a million-dollar compensation to Mbappé

The French League committee forces the club to pay the forward for salaries and bonuses.

In a new legal defeat, PSG will pay a million-dollar compensation to Mbappé.

The French Football League’s Disciplinary Committee confirmed on Friday the first-instance ruling in favor of Mbappé against PSG. The club will have to pay €55 million, equivalent to R$338 million, to the forward, who claims he did not receive this amount in bonuses and salaries. The decision is subject to appeal. This amount refers to the last three months of salary and the signing bonus from the French player’s latest contract with the club. However, Paris Saint-Germain argues that the player did not keep his word with president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi in August 2023. At that time, he stated that he was willing to “forgive” the €55 million debt, which directly influenced his reintegration into the squad at that moment.

Mbappé and his representatives, on the other hand, are demanding the full amount. The dispute, which started months ago, could still end up with UEFA and in labor courts in France.

According to the French press, PSG was expected not to pay the bonus in full after the forward decided not to extend his contract for another year and to sign with Real Madrid. During the 2022/23 preseason, he was even removed from the trip to Asia after informing that he would not extend his contract until 2025.

However, both parties reached an agreement for the forward’s reintegration, stating that he would waive approximately €55 million gross of the loyalty bonus. What the player’s representatives claim, however, is that no agreement was signed. Therefore, the terms of the original contract would still have legal validity.
