De La Cruz was criticized by Flamengo’s doctor in leaked audio and gained the support of his compatriot De Arrascaeta
Flamengo’s head of medical department, José Luiz Runco, had a statement leaked on Tuesday (July 22) regarding the clinical condition of midfielder De la Cruz.
According to the professional, the Uruguayan has a “chronic, irreparable injury to his right knee.” Furthermore, the doctor also criticized the previous management for signing the player. However, the player’s injury situation did not go down well within the squad.
After the statement was released by the press, Uruguayan Arrascaeta supported his compatriot on social media with a photo alongside the midfielder. “It’s about taking care of our own. Simple as that,” wrote the number 10. De la Cruz cost Flamengo R$102.074 million.
The club, in fact, paid R$92 million in federation fees and bonuses, plus over R$9 million in intermediary costs. The signing was made under the administration of Rodolfo Landim, predecessor of the current Flamengo president, Bap.
In a medical bulletin released by Flamengo this Tuesday (22), Luiz Macedo, a member of the medical department, explained Nico’s absence in recent games. “Regarding Nico, we understand that he had a very good first half of the year, perhaps his best run at Flamengo, but after a traumatic injury in May, inherent to any athlete, he had this longer period of absence,” began Dr. Luiz Macedo. “This made us, in an attempt to ensure he has the same run of form as in the first half of the year, opt to remove him from the next games to do specialized work so that he can perform as well in the upcoming challenges,” concluded the Flamengo doctor.
