Mbappé had been away from the Spanish club due to acute gastroenteritis; the player is doubtful for the rest of the World Cup
French forward Kylian Mbappé returned to Real Madrid’s training center this Thursday (19/6) for the Club World Cup. The player had been hospitalized due to acute gastroenteritis. Mbappé “was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and returned to the Real Madrid training center,” the Spanish club wrote in a statement.
The player “will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activities,” it concluded. Mbappé had a fever for several days, which prevented him from playing in his team’s debut in the competition against Al-Hilal, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, on Wednesday (18).
The match ended in a 1-1 draw. The 26-year-old French star did not train on Tuesday (17), in the last session led by Xabi Alonso, for the same reason, although he trained with the rest of the squad on the previous two days.
“He has been unwell for the last two days, with a significant viral infection. We have to see how he improves day by day,” said Alonso in the press conference after the match against Al-Hilal.
Real Madrid will face Mexican side Pachuca in Charlotte on Sunday (22), in the second round of Group H of the tournament. Asked if the Frenchman would be available for this second match, Alonso replied: “We don’t know, we have to see how his recovery will be.”
