Castellar Neto returns to the presidency of the FMF after eight years

President of the FMF between 2014 and 2018, lawyer Castellar Neto will return to lead the entity starting next year

Lawyer Castellar Modesto Guimarães Neto will once again assume the presidency of the Minas Gerais Football Federation (FMF) in 2026, eight years after leaving the position. He was elected by the “Avante Futebol Mineiro” ticket, which includes vice-president Helena Miranda Campos de Abreu.

Castellar Neto was in charge of the FMF between 2014 and 2018. At the time, the leader was 31 years old and was the youngest president elected by the state federations. He has a law degree from Fumec University and a master’s degree from the Sorbonne University in France, and served as vice-president of the CBF.

The “Avante Futebol Mineiro” slate was elected by acclamation, that is, unanimously, at the General Electoral Assembly held this Tuesday (17/6). The management will lead the FMF in the four-year period 2026-2030. Vice-president-elect Helena de Abreu is the current secretary-general of the FMF. She marks a historic moment and will be the first woman elected to serve on the entity’s board.

Directors of Minas Gerais clubs were present at the assembly. President of Betim, Frederico Pacheco praised the management and highlighted the support of the team from Greater BH to the directors.

“Here in Betim, we are very familiar with the work of this group that was elected to lead the FMF. They are people who really understand football and have always been by our side, both in good times and in difficult times. Our club has always had their support, and that makes all the difference.

What makes me most confident is that they know that football in Minas Gerais is built on partnerships. It’s no use just looking after the big teams – you have to look at everyone, from the professional to the amateur. And they have always done that. I am sure that we will have a FMF that is even closer to the clubs, more present in their day-to-day activities, and that will help strengthen football throughout the state,” he said.
