Brazil lost 2-1 to Japan in the second round of Group C in the women’s tournament at the Olympics 2024 Football. The match, held at the Parc des Princes stadium at 12 pm (Brasília time), saw goals from Jheniffer for Brazil and Kumagai and Tanikawa for Japan.

The first half ended goalless, despite Japan having a chance from a penalty in the dying minutes: Tanaka took a poor shot, and Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena saved it.

The second half began promisingly for the Brazilian team, with Jheniffer opening the scoring at 11 minutes into the second half after receiving the ball at the edge of the box and shooting into the bottom left corner past goalkeeper Yamashita.

However, what seemed to be a dream of early qualification turned into a nightmare in injury time: first, Yasmin handled the ball in the box. The resulting penalty was converted by defender Kumagai. Four minutes later, at 50 minutes into the second half, Tanikawa capitalised on a poor pass from the Brazilian defence and lobbed Lorena to secure the comeback for Japan.

Brazil will now seek qualification against Spain on Wednesday (31st) at 12 pm. Japan will face Nigeria on the same day and time.
