Augusto Melo guarantees Hugo Souza's stay at Corinthians.

The president of Corinthians, Augusto Melo, announced on Tuesday night that goalkeeper Hugo Souza, who is on loan from Flamengo, will remain at the São Paulo club in 2025. The statement was made after the draw for the Paulista Championship groups. See the top football results at football scores app.

The player’s loan contract with Timão is set to expire at the end of this year, but Corinthians has the priority to buy him at the end of the agreement. In October, shortly after his arrival, the club’s management informed Flamengo that they would be acquiring him permanently.

To make this happen, Corinthians will need to pay around R$5 million, which can be split into four installments until June 2026. The final deadline for the negotiation is November 30 this year. However, the initial offer was rejected by Flamengo, as the guarantor was the same one involved in the transfer of Matheuzinho. At the time, Timão delayed part of the payment for R$8 million. Nonetheless, Augusto Melo expressed confidence and wanted to reassure the Corinthians fans.

“Regarding Hugo, our finance team is in talks with Flamengo, everything is being settled. Hugo is a player of Corinthians, so don’t worry,” he said.

Hugo Souza joined Corinthians in July of this year after the departures of Cássio and Carlos Miguel and quickly won over the fans. He was crucial in securing two penalty shootout victories: against Grêmio in the Copa do Brasil and against Red Bull Bragantino in the Copa Sul-Americana, where he saved three consecutive penalties.
