Ancelotti went to Nilton Santos to watch Botafogo x LA U, in the Libertadores, received a jersey and tried a delicacy from Rio de Janeiro’s beaches
Carlo Ancelotti attended his first match since taking over as coach of the Brazilian National Team. On Tuesday (27/5), just one day after his official presentation, he went to the Nilton Santos Stadium with the coaching staff and the national team director Rodrigo Caetano to watch the match between Botafogo and Universidad de Chile, in the sixth and final round of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. A video released by CBF TV shows the multi-champion coach being applauded by fans in the stands closest to the box where he was watching the game. Ancelotti and the members of his team were presented with Glorioso jerseys personalized with each one’s name and the number seven, immortalized by Mané Garrinha, the greatest idol in the club’s history and an icon of the National Team.
The CBF video also shows Ancelotti trying a typical Brazilian food: tapioca starch cookies. He was “caught” tasting the famous “Biscoito Globo”, a classic delicacy usually sold by street vendors on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro.
On Wednesday (28/5), Ancelotti will attend another match, also in Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo vs. Deportivo Táchira, from Venezuela, starting at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã. On Sunday (31/5), the Italian will watch the first match outside of Rio in person. He will go to Neo Quimica Arena, in São Paulo, to watch Corinthians vs. Vitória, for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. In addition to the coaching staff, Carlo will also be accompanied by Rodrigo Caetano and manager Juan, a former defender for the Brazilian National Team.
Ancelotti will then remain in São Paulo, as on Monday (1/6) he will begin training with the national team at Corinthians’ Joaquim Grava Training Center, with a view to the World Cup Qualifying games against Ecuador on Thursday (5/6) at the Banco Pichincha Stadium in Guayaquil; and Paraguay on Tuesday (10/6) at the Neo Quimica Arena.
