Al-Nassr director speaks out about Cristiano Ronaldo's possible departure

Spanish Fernando Hierro, the club’s sports director, stated that Al-Nassr wants to renew the contract with the Portuguese star, who has a contract until June

Al-Nassr spoke out this week about the possible departure of Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo from the team. The footballer arrived in Saudi football in the 2022/2023 season to be the country’s biggest sports star. The Portuguese star’s contract ends in June of this year. As a result, different media outlets stated that the player has been approached by several clubs. Some newspapers point out that the Super Club World Cup could contribute to the number 7’s transfer to another team. The only Saudi team in the tournament is Al-Hilal, which was indicated as one of those interested in the athlete.

Cristiano has even been speculated about by Brazilian clubs in the competition. However, directors of Palmeiras and Flamengo said they do not want to count on Ronaldo. Spaniard Fernando Hierro, Al-Nassr’s sporting director, said the club wants to renew the player’s contract.

“We are in talks to renew Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract. We really hope he stays at Al-Nassr,” he said. “Ronaldo’s presence has been a national project since the beginning. Cristiano Ronaldo is a great phenomenon in the history of football. He helped the Saudi League grow,” he added.

“Every day a new club appears in the media. About 30 clubs are interested in Ronaldo, but we keep our hopes high,” he concluded.

After Al-Nassr’s defeat to Al-Fateh, this Monday (26/5), in the 34th round of the Saudi Championship, Cristiano made an enigmatic post on social media. “This chapter is over. The story? It continues to be written. Thank you all,” he wrote. The number 7’s post was interpreted by some as a farewell message to Al-Nassr.
