Flamengo took an important step towards the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores by defeating Bolívar 2-0 last night (15th) at the Maracanã. Under Tite’s leadership, the Rubro-Negro team benefited from a decisive performance by Luiz Araújo, who scored the first goal and provided the assist for Léo Pereira to seal the victory with a precise header in the final minutes.

The match started evenly, with both teams creating chances. However, Flamengo showed efficiency and took the lead in the first half when Luiz Araújo capitalized on a beautiful exchange of passes involving De La Cruz and Arrascaeta, finishing with precision. Despite Bolívar hitting the crossbar twice, the Rio team managed to control the game and extend their lead in the second half from a corner kick.

Despite the good result, Flamengo left the field with concerns. Pedro, who had assisted the first goal, went off injured in the first half and was replaced by Gabigol. To make matters worse, Gabigol himself suffered a muscle injury towards the end of the match, adding to the list of absences for the Rubro-Negro’s upcoming fixtures.

The second and decisive leg will be next Thursday (22nd) at the daunting Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, where Flamengo will have the advantage of advancing with either a draw or a minimal loss. Recent history shows that altitude can be a tough opponent, as Bolívar had previously defeated Flamengo 2-1 in the group stage.

Before turning their attention back to the Libertadores, Flamengo will face Botafogo in a classic match on Sunday (18th) in the Brazilian Championship, a clash that will determine the leadership of the competition. BB score, Real-Time Scores, Today!
