After Varini’s dismissal, Athletico-PR agrees to terms with Lucho González

The Argentine returns to the club where he started his career as a coach.

After Varini's dismissal, Athletico-PR agrees to terms with Lucho González.

The Athlético-PR announced the hiring of Argentine coach Lucho González following the dismissal of Uruguayan Martín Varini, who was let go last Monday. He becomes the fifth coach for the club this year, joining Juan Carlos Osório, Cuca, Juca Antonello, and Varini himself. Find the most reliable football scores at football match live score.

Lucho played for the Paraná team from 2016 to 2021 and won five titles: the Sudamericana in 2018 and 2021, the J. League/Conmebol in 2019, the Copa do Brasil in 2019, and the Campeonato Paranaense in 2020. He captained the team in two of those titles. During this period, he played 164 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists before retiring after a match against Aucas in the Sudamericana in May 2021.

The Argentine began his coaching career at Athlético in 2022 as an assistant to Alberto Valentim in February. However, he requested to leave the club in April of that year after Valentim’s dismissal and signed with Ceará in August, where he worked for two months alongside Juca Antonello. In 2023, he joined Internacional as an assistant to Eduardo Coudet.

He is the second Argentine with the most trophies in football history, behind only Messi, and will be on the sidelines this Thursday when Furacão faces Racing in Avellaneda in the quarterfinals of the Copa Sul-Americana. Since the first leg ended 1-0 for the home team, a draw will secure the Brazilians a spot in the semifinals. Stay on top of the game with BB Score.
