Even though Flamengo still trails Cruzeiro in terms of the Brazilian title, it is now the favorite to win the Série A, according to the Mathematics Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
Flamengo, currently second in the national competition, came from behind to beat Bragantino 2-1 this Wednesday (July 23rd) at the Cícero de Souza Marques Stadium in Bragança Paulista. With the result, the Rio de Janeiro team reached 33 points in 15 games, with a 73% success rate.
UFMG’s projection gives Flamengo a 33.3% chance of lifting the trophy. Cruzeiro, in turn, saw its chances drop to 26.7%. Right behind them is Palmeiras, with 19.5%. Cruzeiro leads the Brasileirão with 34 points from 16 games – a 70% success rate. “Raposa” drew 0-0 with Corinthians at Neo Química Arena in São Paulo in the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship.
Another team in contention is Palmeiras, who came from behind to beat Fluminense 2-1 at Maracanã. Cruzeiro had the “help” of goalkeeper Fábio, who made a mistake on Maurício’s goal. Vitor Roque scored the second for the São Paulo team, while Cano scored the only goal for the Tricolor.
