“I want to thank everyone for the warm messages over the last few days. Today, I want to reassure you and clear up once and for all the false rumors that are circulating,” said Daniel Congré
Lyon’s sports coordinator, Daniel Congré, was found stabbed in his home in Pérols, France, last Monday (9/6). He vehemently denied speculation that he had attempted suicide and stated that the incident was a domestic accident.
“I want to thank everyone for the warm messages over the last few days. Today, I want to reassure you and clear up once and for all the false rumors that are circulating,” he said. “I was the victim of a domestic accident that happened while I was with my family. It could have had serious consequences, but fortunately it didn’t,” he said.
Previously, the Montpellier prosecutor’s office had reported that the case was being treated as a suicide attempt, which caused great repercussion.
Congré expressed surprise at the media attention. “I never imagined that this incident would attract so much attention – firstly about my health and then from the media. This episode will soon become just a distant and unpleasant memory for me and my loved ones,” he said.
Daniel Congré is expected to be discharged in the coming days to continue his recovery at home. During his professional career, he played for Toulouse, Montpellier and Dijon.
