The new coach will be presented this Monday (26/5) at Real Madrid City; his contract runs until June 2028
Real Madrid already has a new coach. The Merengue Club announced Xabi Alonso this Sunday (25/5). He will replace Carlo Ancelotti, who will take charge of the Brazilian National Team until June 2028. His debut as coach will be at the Club World Cup in June in the United States. In an official statement, Real Madrid praised Xabi’s career and called him “one of the best coaches in the world”. “One of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football”, it added in a statement.
Xabi Alonso will be presented this Monday (26/5), starting at 12:30 pm, at an event at Real Madrid City. The former midfielder will then speak to the press. The coach will first sign the contract in a meeting with Florentino Pérez, the club’s president.
This announcement marks Xabi’s return to the club where he made history as a player and where he took his first steps as a coach. He coached Real Madrid’s youth team and won La Liga and the Champions League with the youth team. It also marks a return after a successful stint at Bayer Leverkusen. Coaching the German team, Xabi won the League, the Cup and the German Super Cup in three seasons.
Xabi Alonso is one of Real Madrid’s historic players. The former midfielder played 236 official matches between 2009 and 2014. During that time, he won 6 titles: the tenth Champions League, a European Super Cup, a La Liga, two Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup. With the Spanish national team, he won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships (2008 and 2012), in 113 international matches.
