Manchester City lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace this Saturday, 1-0, and reached the season with its worst campaign since 2008/09. The result also represents the club’s worst performance under Pep Guardiola, who took over as manager in 2016. City has 16 defeats this season, its worst campaign in 16 years. The club was runner-up in the FA Cup, eliminated in the Champions League playoffs, is sixth in the Premier League and was beaten in the round of 16 of the English League Cup.

In the English Championship, Manchester City also runs the risk of registering its worst season under Guardiola. With two games remaining, the team has nine defeats and 66 points. Currently, the coach’s worst campaign in terms of defeats is 2019/20, with nine (81 points and second place). In terms of points, the 2016/17 season is Guardiola’s lowest, with 78 (six defeats), finishing the competition in third place.

In addition to the season below expectations, Manchester City will suffer the loss of Kevin De Bruyne, who will leave the club after ten years. Before the final against Crystal Palace, Pep Guardiola stated that the team would seek the title as a way of honoring the Belgian midfielder, so that he could say goodbye by lifting a trophy for the team.

Manchester City’s last two games of the season will be against Bournemouth and Fulham, this week. The duel with Bournemouth will be this Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time); against Fulham, it will be on Sunday, May 25, at 12 pm.
