Fluminense announced the signing of goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga. The 22-year-old player was trained in the club’s youth system and was sold to Liverpool in 2020, with the English club retaining 40% of his economic rights. The transfer was made without any cost. Pitaluga is part of the “Golden Generation” from Xerém, which has produced several players who are now standouts in both national and international football. Some of these names include Calegari, Luan Freitas, Martinelli, Luiz Henrique, João Pedro, and Marcos Paulo.

The goalkeeper moved to Liverpool at a very young age and played in the club’s youth categories before being loaned to St. Patrick’s in Ireland and Livingston in Scotland in recent seasons. With the Reds willing to release the player, they approached Fluminense, and Pitaluga’s desire to return to the club that trained him was also a factor.

Initially, he will join the squad as the third-choice goalkeeper. Fábio remains the team’s undisputed starter, and Vitor Eudes continues as the immediate backup.

Fluminense’s 2025 season kicks off against Sampaio Corrêa in the Carioca Championship on January 12 at Moça Bonita, as the Maracanã stadium is closed for turf maintenance until January 25. For this initial period, the team will field an alternative lineup under interim coach Marcão. The main squad will return from vacation on Wednesday, the 8th. Get the edge with BB Score.
