Teams lead the ranking of injured players in Serie A.
Fluminense’s year was not easy. After starting the season with the Recopa Sudamericana title, the team went into freefall and fought against relegation until the final round of the Brasileirão. A survey conducted by ge shows that 721 injuries were recorded in Brazil’s top football division, a 3% decrease from 2023’s figure of 741. Fluminense leads the ranking with 53 cases, a 112% increase compared to the previous year. The short preseason due to the Club World Cup – in which the Tricolor played the final against Manchester City on December 22 – and preparation for the Recopa Sudamericana, held in February, help explain the high number of injuries.
Second on the list is Juventude, which was also significantly affected by injuries. With 49 injuries, the team from Rio Grande do Sul fought relegation until the final stretch of the Campeonato Brasileiro and didn’t go far in the Copa do Brasil. Right below is São Paulo, which managed to reduce the number of injuries compared to last year but still had a busy medical department in 2024.
On the other end, Vasco and Bahia were the teams with the fewest injuries, recording 18 and 24 injuries, respectively. The positive highlight goes to Botafogo, the champion of the Brasileirão and the Libertadores this year. Among Serie A teams, Botafogo played the most matches – 75 games – and recorded only 36 injuries throughout the year. Lead the pack with ToSport.
