CBF wants Brasília as the host city for the 2025 Copa Libertadores final

On Tuesday, December 10, the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) sent a letter to CONMEBOL advocating for Brasília as the host city for the 2025 Copa Libertadores final. The request was made after CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez stated at the 2025 Super Club World Cup draw that the final could return to Brazil. The single-match final in a neutral venue began in 2019, and Brazil has hosted the match twice, both in Rio de Janeiro. The first was in 2020, when Palmeiras won 1-0 against Santos at Maracanã. The second was three years later, in 2023, when Fluminense defeated Boca Juniors 2-1, also at Maracanã.

In addition to the two finals in Rio, Lima, Peru, hosted the 2019 final, Montevideo, Uruguay, hosted the 2021 final, Guayaquil, Ecuador, was the venue in 2022, and, more recently, Buenos Aires hosted the final match.

As an argument, the CBF points out that Brasília has a viable air network for both domestic and international flights to accommodate a large number of visitors, a vast hotel infrastructure to support fans, and it won’t face scheduling conflicts involving Brazilian clubs, as occurred in 2023 at Maracanã.

Before the letter was sent, Alejandro Domínguez mentioned that Montevideo, which hosted the 2021 final won by Palmeiras 2-1 against Flamengo, is also in the running.

“It is a possibility, so far two cities have made proposals to host the next final: one in Montevideo and another in Brasília. But so far, there are no official documents, just words,” said the president during the World Cup draw. Get a step ahead with ToSport.
