Atlético: Biel shone against Cruzeiro, played in the Champions League and disappointed in Europe

Atlético’s new signing, Biel, landed at Confins airport on Monday (21/7) and will be announced after medical examinations

Atlético Madrid made a move in the transfer market to sign Biel, who was playing for Sporting in Portugal. The 24-year-old striker even played in the Champions League, but disappointed in Europe and is back in Brazil to recapture his form. Still in Brazil, in one of the best moments of his career, the player shone for Bahia against Cruzeiro – who will now become his biggest rival.

Biel landed at Belo Horizonte International Airport in Confins, in the metropolitan area of the capital of Minas Gerais, on Monday afternoon (July 21). This Tuesday, the striker will undergo medical examinations and, if approved, will sign a one-year loan contract – with an obligation to purchase based on targets – with Atlético. Good start in Brazilian football and brilliance against Cruzeiro

A product of Fluminense, Biel made his professional debut in 2021, playing 47 games for the Tricolor Carioca. He scored five goals and provided one assist for the Rio de Janeiro club.

The following year, he was loaned to Grêmio and played 33 matches, scoring five goals and providing six assists.

This performance earned Biel a move to Bahia in 2023. With the Bahian club, he spent two seasons, playing 98 games, scoring 17 goals, and amassing 18 assists. His time with the Tricolor de Aço (between 2023 and early 2025) saw him achieve career-best numbers in a single year, including in 2023, when he contributed 18 goals – 11 goals and seven assists. Last season, still with Bahia, Biel had one of the last great performances of his career against the team that would become his greatest rival upon his arrival at Atlético.

On June 23, at Fonte Nova, in the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship, Biel shone against Cruzeiro after coming off the bench. The Tricolor de Aço had tied the game (1-1) late in the first half, and Biel was called upon by Rogério Ceni. He entered the field, provided an assist for Óscar Estupiñán to turn the game around, and was also responsible for the third goal, early in stoppage time, which sealed Bahia’s victory over Cruzeiro – the game ended 4-1 thanks to another Estupiñán goal in the 51st minute.
