Ronaldo Fenômeno officially expresses interest in becoming president of the CBF.

Ronaldo Fenômeno announced on Monday, 16, that he wishes to be the new president of the CBF, succeeding Ednaldo Rodrigues. The election is expected to take place between March 2025 and March 2026. To run for the position, the former player needs the support of at least four federations and four clubs. Access premium football results at scoreapp.

In an interview with the Brazilian media outlet ge, he stated that he plans to travel across Brazil to gather the necessary support and aims not only to manage well but also to reconnect Brazilian fans with the national team. Former owner of Cruzeiro and currently in the process of selling Valladolid, a club he owns in Spain, Ronaldo says he wants to dedicate himself entirely to the electoral process, though no date has been set.

“I have hundreds of motivations, but the biggest one is to bring back the respect of Brazilian football on a global level. What happens most often when I’m out on the streets is people stopping me and asking me to return to playing, because the national team situation isn’t the best right now, both on and off the field,” he said.

Ednaldo Rodrigues’ term will run until March 2026, and he has a window starting a year earlier to call for new elections. The electoral body consists of the 26 state federations plus the Federal District, each with a vote worth 3. In addition, the 20 clubs in Serie A, with a vote worth 2, and the 20 clubs in Serie B, with a vote worth 1, also have voting rights.

Ronaldo will face a challenging task. The CBF has not had an election with at least two candidates since Ricardo Teixeira’s first election in 1989, due to its complex political structure. Responsible for more than 57% of the votes, the federations have traditionally opted for the acclamation of the candidate in power. However, Fenômeno is betting on dialogue to gain support.
