Fluminense needs to win against Cuiabá at Maracanã and hope for setbacks from their rivals.
Fluminense fans are doing the math. After drawing 1-1 with Athletico-PR at Ligga Arena on Sunday, the 1st, Fluminense gained a lifeline in their fight against relegation and could avoid the drop as early as next round in the Brazilian Championship. To do so, they need to beat Cuiabá at Maracanã and hope for setbacks from Bragantino and Criciúma. Stay updated with the best football results on livescores app.
According to the Mathematics Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Criciúma (85.8%) and Bragantino (80.8%) are the clubs at the highest risk of relegation in the Brasileirão – Cuiabá and Atlético-GO are already relegated.
Next in line is Fluminense, with a 28.3% risk of relegation. This number decreased after the 36th round: in addition to the draw at Ligga Arena, Criciúma lost 4-2 to Corinthians, and Bragantino drew 1-1 with Cruzeiro. Other teams, such as Athletico-PR and Juventude, are still not mathematically safe.
Currently, Mano Menezes’ team is in 16th place with 40 points, two more than Criciúma and Bragantino, who have 38 and occupy 17th and 18th place, respectively. If they beat Cuiabá, the Cariocas will reach 43 points, and with setbacks from the two rivals, they will open up more than a three-point lead, thus ensuring their survival in the top division.
