Football player Heiner J.A.G was sentenced to prison for leaving an opponent quadriplegic after an assault. The Spanish Supreme Court sentenced him to six years in prison for the crime of bodily harm.
The victim of the violence was Raúl Sánchez, who suffered serious impairment of movement in his upper and lower limbs. The incident took place in 2014 in a match between Badalona and ECUA Calella y el Lloreda, in Spain. Heiner J.A.G struck the back of his opponent’s neck, who suffered a herniated disc and a spinal cord injury and became quadriplegic.
Heiner J.A.G will have to pay compensation of 768.7 thousand euros (around R$ 4.98 million at the current exchange rate) to the victim.
