Flamengo players were the target of an attempted robbery on their return to Rio de Janeiro after a draw with Central Córdoba in the Libertadores.

Flamengo players were the target of an attempted robbery on the morning of Thursday (5/8) in Rio de Janeiro. In the incident, goalkeeper Rossi‘s car was shot at with four bullets, but according to a report from the club, “none of the athletes or members of the vehicles were injured”.

The attempted robbery took place after the delegation landed in Rio de Janeiro. On Wednesday (5/7), the Rubro-Negro faced Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, and drew 1-1 in a match for the fourth round of Group C of the Copa Libertadores. The result left the team in third place in the group. In a statement, Flamengo pointed out that “some of the players’ cars were attempted robberies on Linha Amarela, near Bonsucesso”. The incident occurred at 5:30 a.m.

According to the club, “all players involved are now at their homes.”

Despite the serious incident, the attempt was unsuccessful and none of the players or members of the vehicles were injured. All players involved are now at their homes.
