Emerson Royal is Flamengo’s new number 22. The Rubro-Negro signing delighted the fans and explained his reasons for choosing the transfer. The right-back thanked the Rio de Janeiro club’s board for their efforts in negotiating with Milan, Italy.
“First of all, it’s an incredible pleasure to be part of the Nation. I’ve always been a Flamengo fan and didn’t know it. I expressed interest in coming here, but there were difficulties in making it happen. I must thank Flamengo for all their efforts in making this happen,” said Emerson
Royal at a press conference on Tuesday (July 29).
“I had other offers to stay in Europe; I left Brazil when I was 20. Many said I was making a comeback, but quite the opposite. Everyone knows how big Flamengo is. Flamengo came with a huge project, wanting to win everything in every competition, and I’m in my country, where I’ve always dreamed. I’ll try to do my best to help Flamengo achieve things, and, of course, I have the goal of returning to the national team. That was one of the reasons I came here,” he added.
Emerson Royal signed a contract with Flamengo until the end of 2028, in a deal with Milan that involved €9 million (R$58 million). The full-back had been playing for the Italian club since 2024, where he made 26 appearances, starting 22 of them. Besiktas of Turkey was one of the clubs interested in signing him.
