Flamengo thrashed Corinthians in the Brazilian Championship under the watchful eye of Dorival Júnior, the new coach of Timão, and returned to the lead of the competition.
The clash between the two biggest fan bases in Brazil at Maracanã, on Sunday afternoon (4/27), ended 4-0 for Flamengo over Corinthians, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro 2024. For the Rio de Janeiro team, this performance dispels the offensive uncertainties that have surrounded the team in recent games.
It was the second thrashing in this Brazilian Championship, after the 6-0 defeat of Juventude. For Corinthians, it was a clear message that new coach Dorival Júnior – who was at the stadium – will have a lot of work ahead of him. The goals were scored by Cebolinha, Arrascaeta and Pedro, twice. The Uruguayan even became the top scorer in the championship, with five goals.
Flamengo reached 14 points in the Brasileirão and temporarily takes the lead in the championship. Now, the team is behind Palmeiras, who will face Bahia. Corinthians, on the other hand, stopped at seven points, remaining, for now, in 11th place.
