Amid controversy, Flamengo authorizes De la Cruz's trip to Uruguay

Flamengo’s chief medical officer was fired after saying De la Cruz had a ‘chronic and irreparable injury’.

De la Cruz, a midfielder, was released by Flamengo’s board to spend the weekend with his family. He returns to the club for training on Monday (July 28). The player was released amid the recent controversy with José Luiz Runco.

The then-chief medical officer stated in a WhatsApp group that the player has a “chronic, irreparable injury.” De la Cruz did not even participate in training on Friday (25). He had been training separately in recent days. José Luiz Runco left the club last Wednesday. He had returned to the club earlier this year during a restructuring carried out by Bap, then newly elected president.

In an official statement before his dismissal, Flamengo “isolated” Runco from the day-to-day operations of the club. The club noted that the doctors working at Ninho do Urubu are Fernando Sassaki (orthopedist and head of the department), Luiz Macedo (cardiologist), Dieno Portella (orthopedist), Vitor Pereira (orthopedist), and Bruno Hassel (radiologist).
