Real Madrid idol explains why Vini Jr should be a substitute against PSG

Pedja Mijatovic said the Brazilian striker should be left on the bench for Gonzalo García, the 24-year-old Spanish prospect, to start the match.

Former striker Pedja Mijatovic defended the continuation of striker Gonzalo García in Real Madrid’s starting lineup. Mijatovic believes Xabi Alonso should remove Vinicius Junior from the team to give the 24-year-old prospect a boost.

García thrilled fans by scoring five goals and providing two assists in nine games. However, with Mbappé’s recovery, the Spaniard is expected to return to the bench for the match against Paris Saint-Germain. “Gonzalo or Mbappé? Why not both… without Vinicius? Gonzalo is on an impressive run (4 goals in 5 Club World Cup games), and it would be a sin to take him out now, when he’s endured everything, played very well, and scored so many goals. Vinicius is a great player, but with Mbappé recovered and Gonzalo on an impressive run, I don’t think we need to reinvent the wheel now, and Xabi Alonso knows that very well,” Mijatovic said in an interview with Cadena SER.

“I’d bet on Gonzalo and Mpappé against PSG. It’s a game where you have to give it your all. Could sending Vinicius to the bench against PSG spell a firestorm? I think Xabi Alonso is above that, and he already proved that at the Club World Cup,” he added.

Vini Jr. played in all five of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup matches and scored one goal. He’s expected to start in Wednesday’s game (July 9).
