Real Madrid remains in direct contention for the Spanish Championship title. This Sunday (4/5), the meringues beat Celta de Vigo 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu, but with a “scare”, as they opened the score at 3-0, and saw the Galician team close the gap. Vinícius Júnior had a good match. But the main highlights were Arda Güler, with a goal and an assist, and Mbappé, who scored two goals. Celta scored through Javi Rodríguez and Swedberg.
With the victory, Real Madrid reached 75 points, four behind leaders Barcelona, who have 79. The championship is four rounds away from the end. In the fight for the title, the Spanish giants face each other in the next round, at Barça’s stadium. Celta, in turn, which is having a good campaign, remains with 46 points and in the qualifying zone for the Europa League.
Dominating from the start, Real Madrid pushed Celta into the defensive half, mainly exploiting the left flank with Vini Jr. Even so, they struggled to convert their dominance into goals. Celta didn’t attack much, but created the first big chance with a header from number 22, forcing Courtois to make a great save. In the 32nd minute, however, Real opened the scoring.
Arda Güler received the ball on the right, cut inside and hit a beautiful shot from outside the area. At 39, after Celta almost equalized, Real launched a counterattack and Mbappé, receiving the ball from Bellingham at the edge of the area, extended the lead to 2-0. In the second half, just three minutes in, Mbappé took advantage of a pass from Arda Güler to score his second goal and make it 3-0.
With a good advantage, Real Madrid maintained an attacking stance, although with less intensity. In a careless move after a corner kick from the left, Celta managed to reduce the deficit with González, who took advantage of a rebound in the area after Lucas Vázquez saved a ball practically on the line. Celta got excited and, with the entry of veteran Iago Aspas, scored the second goal. The number 10 found Javi Rodríguez, unmarked, and he just touched it past goalkeeper Courtois. At 33, Pablo Durán received another beautiful backheel pass from Iaspas in the middle of the defense and shot, Courtois made a partial save and flew to save almost on the line. End of the game and Real Madrid win 3-2.
