Galvão Bueno sees Pedro's case as an exaggeration, but opines: 'Flamengo is bigger than any player'

Declared Rubro-negro, narrator spoke out this Monday (14) about Filipe Luís’s statements directed at 9 da Gávea

Flamengo’s football department is going through its first major crisis involving a key player in the squad. The relationship between Pedro, the coaching staff, and the department has never been so publicly strained, and the striker’s exclusion from the victory over São Paulo only exacerbated what was already difficult internally.

Filipe Luís’s statements opened the way for both positive and negative analyses from the media, but there were also those who weighed both sides. The controversy evidently became a topic of discussion during the program ‘Galvão e Amigos’, broadcast by Band last Monday night (14).

The show’s host, the narrator, reacted with surprise to Filipe Luís’s stance on Pedro’s absence from the Brasileirão’s resumption. “I confess, in 51 years of television, I’ve never seen a coach in Brazil talk about all the details like that. I’ve never seen a coach talk that way about a player’s absence because he wasn’t even called up to be on the bench. I’ve seen it in Europe. (…) I think he may have exaggerated in two words,” he began.

And the post?

Galvão also commented on the athlete’s attempt at peace, having met with his teammates at Ninho do Urubu and issued a statement on social media. “He sat down with the group because Filipe said he had to sit down and apologize. To his teammates and the fans. He met with the players and sent a message to the fans. I’m not for or against anyone. Flamengo is much bigger than any one player. It’s a settled matter,” he added.

As mentioned, Pedro met with his teammates at the squad’s return to training at Ninho do Urubu on Monday (14). The striker also expressed his feelings on social media in a direct message to the Nation, in which he acknowledged his discomfort with Filipe Luís’s tone. It’s no surprise that the coach did not participate in the meeting proposed by the athlete.
