Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, pointed out that the Série A of the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores da América are priorities for the club
Flamengo is still in the running for three major competitions in 2025, but is focused on just two. The club president, Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap), “ignored” the Copa do Brasil when talking about the club’s priorities for the season. “The priority is the Brasileirão and the Libertadores, but I don’t see how the Club World Cup can compete with these competitions. Flamengo can play up to 81 games this year. That’s a lot. You need to have a larger squad, different medical care, different preparation, among other things. It’s more complicated than in other countries, and I don’t believe that’s sustainable,” he said in an interview with Forbes.
Flamengo is leading the Brasileirão, with 24 points. In the Libertadores, Rubro-Negro qualified in dramatic fashion for the round of 16 and will face Internacional. In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo is in the round of 16 and will face Atlético in a repeat of last year’s final. Rubro-Negro may mix it up and use some reserves in the matches.
In addition to these three competitions, Rubro-Negro will compete in the Club World Cup, held between June and July in the United States. The Rio de Janeiro club’s debut will be on the 16th against Espérance, at 10 pm (Brasília time). Due to the difficulty and the club’s first experience, the tournament is not one of its priorities.
In a conversation with Forbes, Bap projected significant growth in the club’s revenue, with an expectation of reaching R$1.5 billion by 2025. By 2024, Flamengo has collected more than R$1 billion. Bap commented on the situation, stating that the debt is under control and that Flamengo’s financial health is solid, considering that the club will probably be the largest source of revenue in Latin America. “The net impact on Flamengo is positive. Nothing will change in our financial life, because we are a profitable club in Brazil,” the president reinforced.
