In terms of money, 2024 ranks second only to the previous year – $8.59 billion compared to $9.66 billion. In Europe, English clubs spent the most on players, with approximately $1.88 billion in transactions.

Despite the dominance of English clubs, the team that spent the most in 2024 was PSG, followed closely by Manchester United, while Lyon, also from France, completed the podium. Among the five most expensive transfers of 2024, Paris Saint-Germain was involved in two: the signings of Gonçalo Ramos and João Neves, both from Benfica.

The French capital club moved up one spot among the biggest spenders in 2024, while the Red Devils climbed six positions. Despite the spending, Rúben Amorim’s team has had a very inconsistent season and has shown uninspiring football. Completing the podium, Lyon rose 45 places compared to 2023.
