Bragantino player Pedro Severino discharged after 96 days in hospital

A player from the Bragança Paulista U-20 team suffered head trauma in early March after a car accident

Hospitalized for 96 days after suffering a serious car accident on the Anhanguera highway, Bragantino player Pedro Severino, 19, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday morning (10/6). “Throughout the period, Pedro was assisted by a team composed of intensive care specialists led by Dr. Gil Teixeira, as well as neurosurgeons, clinical neurologists and support from multidisciplinary teams at the hospital,” Hospital Unimed Ribeirão Preto reported in a statement.

The player from the Bragança Paulista U-20 team suffered head trauma in early March after the car he was traveling in was involved in an accident. The driver stated in his testimony that he fell asleep at the wheel. The athlete was taken to the hospital in a critical condition and doctors initiated the brain death protocol. The protocol is a set of tests and procedures used to confirm the loss of brain function.

The procedure, however, was interrupted after Severino presented “a cough reflex,” reported the Dr. Waldemar Tebaldi Municipal Hospital in Americana, where he was initially taken.

The player was transferred a few days later to Ribeirão Preto, where he remained under medical care and began to show gradual improvement in his health. At the end of March, Severino left the ICU and has continued treatment in his hospital room since then. The son of former player Lucas Severino, the athlete was trained at the Botafogo-SP youth academy and had been loaned to Bragantino in February.
