The 17-year-old forward stood out with Spain in their victory at the UEFA European Championship.
Lamine Yamal, from Barcelona, could have become the most expensive transfer in football history at the end of the last European season. After standing out with Spain in their UEFA Euro 2024 title, the 17-year-old forward was the target of a bid from PSG. Discover the best football updates on livescores app.
The situation was revealed by Enric Masip on the program “El Chiringuito” – he is a key figure at the Catalan club and a management advisor to president Joan Laporta. The offer was worth 250 million euros, equivalent to R$1.5 billion, and was made to replace French star Kylian Mbappé, who moved to Real Madrid.
“The president already said that there was an offer of 250 million euros that he rejected and that he never actually considered accepting. It came from France. But when you have money and the ability to pay, you can wait to sign any player,” Masip said.
The two largest transfers in history to date also come from PSG. In 2017, the French club paid 222 million euros, around R$822 million at the time, to bring Neymar from Barcelona. The following year, they paid an additional 180 million euros to sign Mbappé from Monaco.
Yamal is regarded as a major talent developed at Barcelona’s famed La Masía academy. He shone in Euro 2024 with one goal and four assists in seven matches, being one of the key players in Spain’s fourth European Championship title.
The arrival of Hansi Flick as coach, replacing Xavi, also boosted the young player’s numbers. In 16 games this season, Yamal has scored six goals and provided eight assists. BB Score, your dependable source for football match results.
