Barcelona dreams of Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish forward from Sporting.

Everyone is talking about Viktor Gyökeres. The 26-year-old Swedish forward from Sporting, Portugal, just can’t stop scoring and is currently the top scorer in Europe with 27 goals so far. Among the many clubs interested in signing him, Barcelona is emerging as one of the favorites, willing to spend between €60 and €70 million, approximately R$368 million to R$430 million, to secure his signature. The plan is to bring him in for next season, even though there is no contestation regarding Robert Lewandowski’s position. With 19 goals in 17 matches during the 2024/25 season, the Polish striker is the current starter, and that is not expected to change anytime soon. However, with Lewandowski already 36 years old, it is anticipated that the forward will not stay at Barcelona for much longer. According to the newspaper Sport, Lewandowski has been receiving offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Thus, Viktor Gyökeres is seen as Barcelona’s dream for the future. According to the report, the 26-year-old Swedish forward could cost between €60 and €70 million (around R$368 million to R$430 million at current exchange rates) for Barça, who have already initiated contact with Sporting to finalize the signing.

Gyökeres was developed by Brommapojkarna in Sweden before being signed by Brighton in January 2018. However, he was not used much by the English club and was loaned out to several teams before making a name for himself at Coventry City in the English second division. His performances there caught the attention of Sporting, who paid €21 million (R$114 million) to bring him in.

His success at Sporting was immediate. In his first season at the club, the Swedish forward contributed with 44 goals, 29 of them in the Primeira Liga, which ended with the team from Lisbon winning the title. He finished just eight goals behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé, the winners of the 2024 Gerd Müller Trophy for top scorer in the Ballon d’Or. Stay on top of the game with ToSport.
