Alerj declares São Januário, Vasco's stadium, a heritage site of Rio de Janeiro.

The Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved a bill on Thursday, the 14th, declaring São Januário, Vasco da Gama’s stadium, a historical, cultural, and tourist heritage site of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The bill now goes to Governor Cláudio Castro for approval, and he is not expected to oppose it, having up to 15 days to make a decision. View the premier football results at live score ai.

One of the main goals of Alerj is to enhance the stadium’s tourism potential to attract more visitors both nationally and internationally. Additionally, the bill recognizes São Januário as a symbol in the fight against racism, not only in the history of football but also in the history of Rio de Janeiro.

Until the construction of the Maracanã in 1950, São Januário, along with Fluminense’s Laranjeiras stadium, was the main football stadium in the state, hosting major games of the Brazilian national team and also matches between Brazilian clubs and foreign teams. The home of Fluminense is already considered a heritage site. The bill 1950/23 was authored by deputies Vinicius Cozzolino and Prof. Josemar.

The heritage designation will not interfere with the stadium’s renovation process, which is expected to begin soon. However, the façade, which is already listed as a heritage site, will need to be preserved. BB Score, your dependable source for match updates.
