The club is currently playing in the French fourth division after financial problems; the million-dollar offer was the ‘first step’ in the negotiations.

Awarded with the 2002 World Cup Ballon d’Or, Oliver Kahn made a million-dollar offer to buy Bordeaux, a traditional French team. The information was confirmed by the former German goalkeeper himself, in an interview with the German newspaper Bild’s podcast.

According to Kahn, his offer was around 30 million euros (around R$200 million). “We have been in intense talks with the owners and shareholders for a long time about a possible entry (into the club’s capital). It is not easy, it is very complex, but we have taken the first step, offering 30 million euros.”

“The goal is for the club to return to Ligue 1 in the coming years, we see ourselves as part of the solution and I am sure that we can find a solution together,” he added. Oliver Kahn also highlighted having presented evidence of funds to reinforce purchasing capacity.
