Manchester United announced on Tuesday that it has dismissed legendary manager Alex Ferguson from his role as global ambassador and director of the club. This decision came from INEOS, the company owned by Jim Ratcliffe, which took control of football operations after the sale by the Glazer brothers. Ferguson, who had held the position since his retirement in 2013, will remain as a non-executive director. Uncover top football updates at latest soccer scores.

According to the British newspaper The Athletic, this move is part of a cost-cutting plan announced by the new management. The former manager’s salary was £2.16 million per year, approximately R$13 million.

The newspaper also reported that the 82-year-old Scot will continue at Manchester United as a director on the football board, a position previously held by the legend Sir Bobby Charlton until his death in 2023, serving more as a formality.

At the club, Sir Alex Ferguson made history, managing the team from 1986 to 2013 and winning 38 titles, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies. When combined with the trophies won in Scotland with Aberdeen and St. Mirren, Ferguson is the most successful manager in football history, with 49 titles, surpassing names like Carlo Ancelotti and José Mourinho.

A declared fan of United, Jim Ratcliffe took control of the English club in January 2024, when he announced the purchase of 25% of his beloved team, removing them from the control of the Glazer brothers, who were constantly criticized by fans. Get the edge with BBscore football.
